What is art?!

The question "what is art?" is an extremely complicated subject, from a brief look at the definition of art in the Oxford dictionary and the definitions of art from dictionary.com;

"Art, skill applied to design, representation, or imaginative creation; human skill as opp. to nature."

"The quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance."

"The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium."

Simple surely? Art is the human skill of creativity, to create something aesthetically pleasing that is an imitation of nature. But the question of what is art is far more complicated than this I would say it is on par with politics, one persons view on art could be completely different from another and it would be impossible to refer to one definition of art as the be all and end all.

The image above is by Andy Warhol, originally a phrase from Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan, the reason I chose this image is because Warhol came from the pop art movement of the 1950s and 60s. Pop art challenged the traditional view of art, and created a bridge for commercial art to fine art and questioned the gap between low art and high art, it brought consumerism and popular culture to the art world. I believe that video games are emerging as a new form of pop art. Video games are mass-produced, created by human skill and creativity, they are aesthetically pleasing and reference forms of popular culture, they can "Bring about emotion through the Production or arrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements."
